Developed within the span of only a few days, Flappy Bird became a massive hit on mobile devices.
The game, which challenges players to safely guide the titular bird through a series of Super Mario Bros.-style pipes, became so successful that its developer eventually removed the game from app stores due to the overwhelming response he received from fans.
Luckily for Flappy Bird fans it spawned countless clones.
Now Epic Games, the AAA developer behind franchise juggernauts like Gears of War and Unreal Tournament, has developed its own tribute to Flappy Bird dubbed Tappy Chicken.
Just like the game that inspired it, Epic Games’ Tappy Chicken puts you in control of a flying creature as you attempt to avoid colliding with obstacles for as long as possible.
And while it sports retro-style visuals similar to the game that influenced it, Tappy Chicken employs Epic Games’ next-gen proprietary graphics technology, Unreal Engine 4. The game was actually built to demonstrate how easy it is to use the tools to build games.
As Epic Games explains, Tappy Chicken was actually developed by an artist at Epic with zero programming skills in a single weekend.
You can download Tappy Chicken on Google Play for free. If you feel inspired to generate your own creations with Unreal Engine 4, you can get access to the tools by signing up for a $19-a-month subscription.
