One of our favorite cord-cutting apps for NVIDIA SHIELD is Plex. While keeping things in the cloud has surely taken off, the fact remains that a lot of us still have terabytes of media content. From movies and music to TV shows and pictures, Plex for SHIELD Android TV lets you keep your content in one place while streaming any manner of data to pretty much any device imaginable.
Plex recently announced a whole host of new features that not only add new features and speed improvements, but Plex now boasts “the magic of automatic photo-tagging.” With “automagic” image-tagging technology, Plex now makes it easier to search through all your libraries for an even more enjoyable photo viewing experience. Plex's photo-tagging feature requires a Plex Pass subscription (plans start at $4.99 / month) which also gives users exclusive access to additional features and apps as well as the ability record TV for free over the air, sync your media for offline offline viewing just to name a few.
In previous builds, Plex would separate photos and videos into separate libraries, but now, photos and videos are compiled into a single library. When it comes to accessing your photos and videos, Plex dramatically increased the speed by which photos are imported. According to Plex, importing content is now 300% faster!
Of course the exciting thing is automatic photo-tagging, and Plex uses what they call “advanced machine learning technology” to accomplish this. According to Plex the app will now automatically tag things like “kitten” and “irish setter.” Because of this, SHIELD users can simply search for things like “puppy” in the search bar and Plex will make the logical leap for you and show you all of the pics of your best friend.
Additionally, when looking at a photo, Plex now shows you related photos that share similar tags. Be warned, you WILL get sucked into the rabbit hole of your photo and video library.
