Adventure games are typically best when backed by a rich narrative, and when they give weight to your in-game decisions. You’ll be hard pressed to find a better example of a title that exemplifies this than The Wolf Among Us, which is available to stream on NVIDIA SHIELD with GeForce NOW.

You can purchase this title now in the GeForce NOW store for $24.99, which gives you unlimited streaming access on SHIELD as well as a digital download code, redeemable from Telltalegames.com, which you can use to install a local copy of the game.

Your Choices Determine How The Wolf Among Us Ends!

The Wolf Among Us comes to you by way of Telltale Games, the same folks that brought us The Walking Dead, which was many critic’s pick for Game of the Year in 2012 (and which is available in the GeForce NOW membership library). And, more recently, Tales from the Borderlands.

Like each of these games, The Wolf Among Us is a point-and-click adventure game in which you explore scenes, collect items and interact with various characters via a rich conversation-tree system. In most cases you’ll have multiple options for dealing with a particular character to get what you need, and often will have a limited amount of time with which to make your choices. And your decisions will have a tremendous impact on the outcome of the game, which unfolds over the course of five distinct episodes.

This adventure game is based on the Fables series of graphic novels by Bill Willingham, but don’t let “comic” fool you. This series is definitely geared for adults and is why The Wolf Among Us carries a Mature rating. The game’s gritty visuals suit the dark theme of the narrative, as do the language and occasional violent scenes. Definitely a game to enjoy once the kids are safely tucked in bed!

Can You Keep the Peace in The Wolf Among Us?

As for the story and setting, you can think of The Wolf Among Us as much darker take on the popular TV series “Once Upon a Time”. Notable figures of fairy tales and folklore have been kicked out of their magical homeland by a shadowy figure known only as The Adversary. Most have settled in Manhattan, because why not? You follow the efforts of “Fabletown’s” sheriff, Bigby Wolf, as he endeavors to keep everyone from destroying their new home, and each other.

The game kicks off with seems like a relatively simple murder investigation and snowballs from there. The story and conversations often ignite quick-time action sequences that result in some truly memorable fights, chases and cinematic moments.

We’ll not spoil the experience here - let’s just say it won’t take you long at all to see why The Wolf Among Us received so many accolades for its story. The series definitely lives up to the heritage of its predecessor, The Walking Dead, and if you enjoyed that series The Wolf Among Us is simply a must-play adventure game.
