Heavily inspired by classic science-fiction films and novels, No Man Sky drops you in the midst of an infinite universe to explore. When the game begins you’ve crash-landed in a small ship on an alien planet. Your first goal is to find the resources you need to repair your ship, and from there the path you choose is truly your own.
Once you repair your ship, you can embark on an adventure that unfolds at your pace. You can literally go anywhere, and do anything. You can adopt the mantle of space explorer and simply travel to new galaxies to chart them and be the first to discover new planets, life forms and resources. You can be a trader and build wealth through the discovery and sale of rare, valuable resources. Or you can be a fighter pilot and prey on space pirates and try to steal their bounties.
Our version of the game has been updated to include the latest Path Finder update patch, which adds many exciting new features to the base game. This update introduces ground-based vehicles you can use to explore planets, a new permadeath mode that ups the game’s challenge factor and a variety of visual updates. Plus, you can also now own several ships, each with unique specializations that improve performance in a specific area - such as dogfighting, exploring, or hauling.
The Path Finder additions complement those added by the previous Foundation Update patch, which added several new game modes, base building, camping, farming and massive, customizable, interstellar freighters to the game. Together, these updates bring an entirely new level of immersion to the process of discovering, exploring, and living on, new planets.
However you choose to play, No Man’s Sky’s universe is procedurally generated and open, rather than pre-rendered and linear. So every time you play a new game the universe is different. When you find a new distant star, planet or life form there is a chance you will be the first, and perhaps only, player to do so.
Many of the planets you visit are densely populated with flora and fauna - while others may be cold and barren. Some are peaceful and hospitable, others...not so much. Often you’ll have to battle the elements, such as deadly storms and toxic gases, along with alien forces. Simply surviving while continuing to find and gather the resources you need to improve your ship and continue exploring is a core element of the game.
During your travels you will find evidence of ancient civilizations and clues you can choose to follow that draw you towards the center of the universe, and perhaps, the key to the meaning of the cosmos. You can choose to follow this path or elect to forge your own.
As you explore, you will experience smooth transitions from deep space to entering a planet’s atmosphere and landing on its surface. Then you can hop out of your ship and explore on foot to gather plant and animal samples, mineral resources or to explore alien buildings or barter at trading posts.
And along every step of the journey you’ll enjoy a rich visual experience that is unlike any other game you’ve played before. Each planet has a unique, and often times resplendent color palette, which in and of itself makes each a joy to discover.
If you enjoy the thrills of exploration and discovery, No Man’s Sky is an adventure made for you.
