Modern Combat 5: Blackout, the latest installment in Gameloft's military-themed first-person shooter franchise, has officially launched and is ideal for console-style controls. Luckily, the game launches with built-in support for HID game controllers and the NVIDIA SHIELD.

Packing impressively high-end visual effects like heat haze distortion that wafts off recently fired gun muzzles, Modern Combat 5 puts players in command of an elite soldier charged with hunting down a terrorist faction in a campaign that unfolds across real-world locations around the globe from the historic city of Venice to the bustling streets of Tokyo.

The new game also features a rather robust multiplayer offering built around a unified progression system that allows players to build up their stats and rank up in both MC5's single-player and multiplayer.

Additionally, the game boasts four distinct playable soldier classes—Assault, Heavy, Recon and Sniper—which offer players a lot of flexibility in how they choose to engage the enemy.

For players who want to experience Modern Combat's explosion-ridden gameplay in shorter play sessions, a brand new Spec-Ops mode introduces brief objective-based missions that help round out the experience.
