Tegra K1 Brings Serious Gaming Chops to Mobile

By Noah Kravitz - Tue, Jan 7, 2014

NVIDIA kicked off CES 2014 by unveiling Tegra K1, the first mobile processor to bring console-class gaming to the palm of your hand.

The impossibly advanced Tegra K1 is powered by the 192-core NVIDIA Kepler GPU and shares its DNA with the fastest desktop graphics card on the planet, our GeForce GTX 780 Ti. Think about that a second: 192 cores in your mobile GPU. Tegra K1 runs Unreal Engine 4, fully supports DirectX 11, OpenGL 4.4, and tessellation.

It’s the first mobile processor to deliver the same graphics features as the next generation of consoles like the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and faster performance than current generation consoles like the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. To put it simply, next-gen PC gaming will now be available on your smartphone, tablet or other mobile device.

The first mobile processor to support CUDA – our blazing-fast parallel computing platform – Tegra K1 is also incredibly efficient. Our Kepler architecture has been proven in tens of millions of graphics cards and the ten most energy-efficient supercomputers on the planet. In its mobile form, the Kepler GPU powering Tegra K1 is 1.5 times more efficient than other mobile GPUs. That means a better gaming experience and faster overall performance without sacrificing battery life.
