Best Apps to Watch Major League Baseball and Other Sports on SHIELD

For sports fans the opening day of the Major League Baseball season is essentially "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year!" But how can SHIELD users watch all of the action? As the cord cutting landscape improves it's actually super-easy. We show you how to watch all of the opening day games as well as all of the other sports that are in full swing right now. Simply put, cord cutting isn’t just about movies and TV shows anymore. Folks like us want the full breadth of what the world has to offer. And while live, local sports has been the last bastion of cable and satellite TV dominance, the fact remains that you can still get nearly all of the sports you want with an NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV.

Sling TV (Plans start at $20 / month)

The Holy Grail, and often most difficult thing for cord-cutters to resolve, is live TV. Sure, over-the-air HD is great for local TV but what about live cable TV? That’s where Sling TV comes in. For $20 a month you can stream everything from ESPN to TNT.


PlayStatuion Vue (Plans start at $39.99 / month)

PlayStation Vue is the latest live TV streaming app to come to SHIELD. Similar to other live TV streaming apps, with PlayStation Vue SHIELD owners can watch movies, sports, and “On Demand programming” from a plethora channels including AMC, Comedy Central, Disney, ESPN, HBO, NFL Network, and SHOWTIME. PlayStation Vue plans start at $29.99 / month. Similar to some Sling TV plans, PlayStation Vue is a great way to watch live, local sports including Major League Baseball.


MLB.tv App ($24.99 / month)

Watch every 2015 regular season game LIVE or on demand in HD quality. MLB.tv has DVR controls that let you pause and rewind live game action, or jump to big plays with milestone markers. Watch either the home or away team’s broadcast and never miss your favorite announcers calling the action.

Of course, access to on-demand highlights and news is available to everyone regardless of provider. CBS All Access! App ($5.99 / month)

While it’s possible to watch your local CBS broadcast in HD with an HD antenna, CBS All Access! gives the the ability to watch a variety of different sports feeds. This is a great app for lovers of college football. After a one week free trial CBS All Access! is $5.99 a month.


Fox Sports Go App (Requires subscription through a participating cable or satellite provider)

While plenty cool, Fox Sports Go isn’t purely a cord-cutting app as you’ll need a proper cable or satellite subscription to use it. That said, we really enjoyed the variety of sports that the channel provided.


Redbull TV App (Free)

Known for their action sports, Red Bull TV is a great place to view everything from motorcycle racing and mountain biking to cliff diving and surfing. The short films and documentaries in particular look amazing when streamed in 4k.


No app? No problem! Thanks Googlecast!

While the above apps are great, thanks to Googlecast, with NVIDIA SHIELD, you’re not limited to only consuming content that’s available in the Google Play Store! Any app that works with your Android phone can be “cast” to your SHIELD Android TV. Sports fans will want to cast NHL Gamecenter Live, NFL Sunday Ticket and MLS Live.
